Food & Drink Around Harrogate & District
The Harrogate District is blessed with fertile soil and lush grazing which produces wonderful ingredients to inspire our cooks and chefs.
We also have a rich tradition of brewing with a number of family breweries whose origins stretch back centuries. This, combined with the popularity of microbreweries and craft beer production have resulted in Yorkshire, and the Harrogate District in particular, becoming a go-to destination for lovers of craft beers and traditional ales.
You will find many of the familiar high street names we know and love, catering for visitors – but there is also a thriving independent foodie scene bringing its passion to the table.
From light bites in an award winning independent café, priding itself on its single origin coffee beans and freshly prepared artisan bread, to a family friendly pizzeria where pizza is elevated to an art form.
We have restaurants drawing upon food culture from all across the globe – with Mediterranean, Mexican, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and American influences to choose from (Yorkshire Tapas anyone?) – even a Nordic inspired restaurant championing locally foraged food.
There is also the reliable old favourite; a traditional pint and something deliciously filling and homemade to satisfy your hunger pangs in front of a roaring log fire in an unspoilt country pub. We have plenty to choose from – and many will welcome your dog if you don’t want to leave your best friend behind!
Small is beautiful and you will find many examples of where this has been taken to heart. Many of our restaurants care passionately about the provenance of their ingredients and proudly share this information with their customers.
And of course, in Harrogate itself, we couldn’t overlook the genteel heritage of the town and the quintessentially English experience of afternoon tea! In addition to a world famous Tea Room which has even featured in ITV’s Downton Abbey, we have an abundance of wonderful cafes and tea rooms serving lovingly baked cakes and bakes to revive visitors suffering that mid-afternoon energy dip.
There are over 135 restaurants in Harrogate alone so the choice can be overwhelming. When only something really special will do – the Harrogate District rises to the occasion with a huge choice of award winning restaurants where the plaudits just keep on coming.
Prepare to be impressed, prepare to be spoiled for choice and most of all, prepare to be full!
