Town Walks

One of the wonderful things about an area of small towns like ours is even when you are not in the countryside enjoyable walks are never far away.  Be it fascinating loops of the town’s boundary, or an alternative way to get to one our great attractions like Fountains Abbey or RHS Garden Harlow Carr, you will find a range of walks available.

Enjoy a Stroll By The River

Gentle woodland ambles a plenty can be enjoyed along the constantly changing River Nidd as it passes Pateley Bridge varying between fast, shallow sections babbling round small islands and slow deep sections of smooth calm waters.

Enjoy exploring the Nidd Gorge near Knaresborough where the River Nidd seems to slow to a gentler pace to slide under the ancient trees and weaves around the old market town.

Follow the River Skell from Ripon as it reaches towards Fountains Abbey, or relax by the banks of the slow moving River Ure as it peacefully passes Boroughbridge, with its marina, and idyllic arable tranquillity.

These walks make for a great inclusion to a day visiting a new town, giving a pleasant breather from the lively shopping centre and bustling high street.

Heritage Tours

Take an informative tour of a town centre and find the key buildings and points of interest that show how the town grew and developed.  Discover the remains of the past structures that were once integral but now lie almost forgotten or pause at the memorial of a famous, or infamous character from the town’s history.

The history of our district has many layers and a town walk can be the perfect way to get under its skin.  Find the houses that were once the railway station or courthouse, and sculptures and art works old and new that explore distinctive aspects of the town’s identity.

So whichever one of our towns and city you are visiting be sure to enjoy the town walk and explore it in full.
