Christmas Shopping, Markets and Fayres

The Harrogate District is the ideal Christmas shopping destination with artisan markets and Christmas fayres complementing our boutique shops and thriving high streets. If you are looking for antiques, handmade items for the home, mouth-watering local treats or the latest high tech gadgets and fashions you will find it here. We have a full program of festive shopping events for you to plan your visit around.

Ripon cathedral

Ripon Cathedral is a spectacular venue to visit at any time and the Christmas Gift & Food Fair held on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th November is so popular that entry times must be booked in advance in order to shop for gifts and to enjoy the music, hot drinks and homemade cakes. Details on the cathedral website.

Ferris wheel jpg

Harrogate is welcoming a brand new Christmas Fayre this year set right in the town centre bringing the festive stalls right next to our much loved retailers. In addition to the crafts, gifts and delicious hot food there will be a Ferris Wheel, Victorian Carousel and Helter Skelter adding to the excitement. To help you reach all the entertainment a festive road train called The Candy Cane Express will take you from one attraction to another free of charge. The fayre is open for ten days from Friday 3rd until Sunday 12th December.

Fireworks

Knaresborough is a charming market town that loves its special events and the Christmas Market on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th December is one of the most memorable; with brass band music, mulled wine and traders in costume and a firework finale on Sunday this weekend is a treat for everyone.

Valley gardens

The historic and beautiful Valley Gardens in Harrogate are the setting for an artisan market with street food vendors and live entertainment on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th December.

Artisan markets can be found at Langthorpe Farm Shop in Boroughbridge on Saturday 4th December and in the market place in Ripon on Sunday 5th and Sunday 12th December for anyone wanting to find a special, locally sourced gift.

The gardens of RHS Harlow Carr are beautiful in all seasons and a walk at this time of year combines fresh air, stunning horticulture and the chance to browse an exhibition of handmade gifts from Yorkshire artists. Handmade at Christmas is on every day from 21st October until 29th December.
