Five ideas to fall in love with across the Harrogate District this Valentine’s Day

Feel the love in the heart of Yorkshire! Whether it’s a first date or a "Galantine’s" get together, here’s some of our top tips of things to see and do to ignite a little l’amour across Harrogate, Boroughbridge, Knaresborough, Masham, Pateley Bridge, Ripon and Nidderdale to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.

  • “Love is in the air…” and it’s easy to fall in love with the bountiful stunning views and outdoor spaces of Nidderdale an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

Landscape plays a huge role in all the great romances, just ask Kathy and Heathcliff! It’s easy to understand why when you fall hard for the breath-taking beauty of this awe-inspiring landscape. Once voted as one of the favourite beauty spots across Yorkshire and the Humber by readers of Which? Travel Magazine, it’s notable for windswept moorlands, steep river valleys, peaceful woodlands and tranquil expanses of water. It’s the perfect place to fall in love, even if it is just with nature!

Capture picture perfect moments at Fountains Abbey, Ripon, one of the National Trust’s most Instagram-able locations, making it the top spot to capture that first-date selfie! Take a stroll around the grounds and enjoy the natural beauty and rich history that surrounds you in this historic setting that recently starred in the second season of Netflix’s The Witcher.

If the great outdoors with stunning views is your thing, why not take a romantic riverside walk in Knaresborough? Climb to the top of the town and feast your eyes on the beautiful vista across the viaduct and River Nidd.

Even in the brisk February air, it’s never too cold to enjoy an ice cream, right? Take your pick from an array of delicious traditional ice cream shops and contemporary gelatos that line the lovely streets of Knaresborough. While away the hours, curled up in a café or take in the view in one of the bars and restaurants across the town, many of which have heated outdoors areas to keep you toastie as you people watch with a loved one.

Spending time doing something you enjoy is a great way to invigorate mind, body and soul.
