Knaresborough lights up

Christmas 2020 in Knaresborough will be celebrated with creativity, beauty and seventy decorated trees as part of the annual Christmas Tree Festival. The people of this charming market town were determined for the popular event to go ahead and have adapted it from a display within St John the Baptist Church to a trail around the town centre.

The church itself will remain the focal point of the event and will accommodate approximately fifty of the beautiful trees with another twenty on display in shop windows throughout the town. An on-line trail will be produced and made available to download covering all 70 trees, and a timed entry system will enable safe access to the church bookable in advance.

Shops will have their trees displayed from Saturday 5th December and the church festival will open on Saturday 12th December and run through until Wednesday 6th January (12th night) 2021, allowing the town to truly celebrate the Christmas season.

Admission to the festival is free, but there will be the opportunity to donate to the church and to the chosen charity for this year which is Cancer Research.

The town trail was made possible by Knaresborough Chamber of Trade, William Taylor, Secretary and Treasurer told us:

“The Knaresborough Chamber of Trade is delighted to be part of this year’s Christmas Tree Festival which has been an excellent collaboration between St John’s Church, Knaresborough Rotary, Knaresborough Town Council and also the Chamber. Whilst covid has cancelled most events it is fantastic that this team have been able to bring some Christmas cheer to the town.

The decorated trees that are part of the festival will be supplemented by over 80 external trees fixed above shops in the town and fitted with lights. This has been heavily subsidised by the Chamber in a bid to really brighten up the town in this extraordinary year.

We hope everyone can shop local and stay safe whilst enjoying the trees on display”.
