Henshaws Virtual Charity Pub Quiz

Henshaws Virtual Charity Pub Quiz

The well-known pub in Knaresborough market place, Blind Jacks, will be the virtual hosts of a special ‘Pub in a Box’ quiz event, raising funds for local charity Henshaws on June 13th.

Blind Jacks have joined forces with local breweries across Knaresborough and Harrogate to bring a little bit of pub culture into the homes of beer lovers across the area and are inviting people to raise a glass and get involved with a charity event with a difference!

To tantalise your taste buds Blind Jacks are putting together exclusive boxes of goodies, with each to include seven handpicked beers, a branded glass and pub snacks. Knaresborough’s popular pub will be taking pre-orders for these boxes through their website and then inviting people to join in on the action with a virtual pub quiz hosted by DJ Trev live on his Facebook page. Those pledging their support include Harrogate Brewing Co, Daleside Brewery, Roosters Brewing Co, Turning Point Brew Co and BAD Co.

Gemma Young, Henshaws Fundraising Manager for Yorkshire, said “We love how local businesses and organisations are finding novel ways to keep their customers happy whilst keeping everyones’ spirits up! With the postponement of Henshaws annual Beer Festival and Bed Fest events, this is a brilliant way to bring a little bit of Henshaws and that festival feel into people’s homes. As a charity that relies heavily on ticket income from events, support like this is crucial to our survival at this time and will raise much needed funds for our Emergency Appeal”.

Christian and Alice Ogley, landlord and landlady of Blind Jacks, said “Given the Coronavirus pandemic, pubs and breweries – like all right now - have had to adapt quickly and continue to do so. Staying in has had to become the new going out. Given our ability to carry out a delivery service, we like the idea of bringing together the community with this fun twist on the normal pub quiz, and it’s brilliant to be able to support Henshaws at what is a very difficult time for them too”.

Henshaws is a northern charity supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to go beyond expectations. In response to the pandemic, Henshaws are taking extraordinary measures to ensure their service users get the support they need right now. Their ability to raise funds has been hugely affected, with many events cancelled or postponed and the fundraising appeal needs to replace this income and fund the unprecedented additional work needed to support service users.

Gemma Young added “The current situation is challenging for everyone, but it is particularly difficult for our beneficiaries. People with learning difficulties find change hard at the best of times. For those with conditions such as autism routine is so important, it’s a stabilising factor, and even the slightest change can be deeply unsettling. Social distancing and self-isolation seem incomprehensible. At the same time, many of our service users have complex healthcare needs and fall into the category of the most vulnerable people in our community, and so we must do all we can to protect them.”

The virtual pub quiz night looks like it will be great fun so head to www.blindjackspub.com and place your order by June 7th to get your hands on your very own ‘Pub in a Box’ and join in the virtual live quiz with DJ Trev at 4pm on June 13th at facebook.com/DJTrev.
