What's new at the Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park
Here in the beautiful countryside between Masham and Ripon, the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park at Grewelthorpe is a true hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. We are home to over 80 contemporary sculptures set within 45 acres of breath-taking garden, inspired by the Himalayas.
Each sculpture has been purposely chosen and positioned within the landscape in such a way that it relates to everything around it; the weather, light, vegetation and the close and long-distance views.
The stunning landscape of our gardens is comprised of a beautiful valley with scenic woodland walks, enhanced by three lakes, a Pagoda, Summerhouse, Himalayan Shelter, Contemplation Circle and Norse Hut. The microclimate of the valley makes it fertile ground for the rare blue poppy, alongside the North’s largest collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias.
It has been a very busy few months at the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park and we are delighted to welcome our new Head Gardener, Stephen Ward who has hit the ground running.
Stephen and his team have done a fantastic job clearing away numerous fallen trees, thinning and carefully replanting rhododendrons and azaleas and removing tree guards. They have also been busy planting new herbaceous borders, rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, acers and a new collection of hydrangeas.
In addition to this, we have added three areas of wild meadow for additional summer interest, installed four new sculptures by the Dutch artist Karin van der Molen and we have upgraded the vast majority of our paths.
We had planned to be open from Good Friday 10th April through to the beginning of November however opening this year is still an unknown for obvious reasons. We hope everyone is staying safe and we look forward to welcoming you as soon as we can.
