The Old Magnesia Well Pump Room is situated in the Town's famous Valley Gardens. Dating from 1858 for the dispensing of mineral waters rich in sulphur, iron and other elements deemed of value,  it was used for the treatment of gout, rheumatism, digestive disorders and anaemia, this Gothic-style building was restored by Friends of Valley Gardens as a visitor and educational attraction. It was opened to the public in October 2015. The restoration, which includes a rock, peat and sensory garden is opened to the public from 10.00am to 3.30pm of the first and third Sundays of the month. Here you can see how water drawn from nearby wells and sold to members of the public establishing Harrogate's pre-eminence as a Spa Town and centre for the treatment of rheumatic disorders. The Old Magnesia Well Pump Room and surrounding gardens was awarded a Platinum Award in the open spaces category (Yorkshire in Bloom 2016) also in 2016 the Harrogate in Bloom Shield.   Read more
