Ripon Cathedral is a medieval marvel boasting a fascinating history all the way back to the 7th century. Serving the City of Ripon and the stunning county of North Yorkshire, worship is the heartbeat of Ripon Cathedral: with no fewer than three services each day including Choral Evensong (5.30pm/3.30pm Sunday) sung five times weekly by the nationally-acclaimed cathedral choir.

Open to visitors daily (8.30am-6pm Monday-Saturday and 12pm-5pm on Sunday), a visit offers the chance to learn more about our fascinating history and admire the excellence of masters of stonework, word work and stained glass.  We have a team of experienced guides who are experts in the extensive history of the cathedral, dating back over 1350 years. (Bespoke 60-minute tours are available by booking in advance).  Alternatively, feel free to pick up one of our informative pilgrimage or welcome booklets and freely explore at your own pace.

We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds and regularly hold free workshops throughout the school holidays to allow your children to unleash their creativity and interact with their surroundings. Additionally, we have produced some interactive trail sheets that are available all year round to encourage children to freely explore both inside and outside of the Cathedral.

For those who are musically inclined, there are weekly free concerts held every Thursday lunchtime in the Quire. Featuring a range of musicians and performances across the year, the Thursday Lunchtime concerts provide the perfect opportunity to absorb the atmosphere and forget about the stresses of daily life.

With free entry you can explore this magnificent medieval cathedral including its Anglo-Saxon crypt which, dating from 672AD is the oldest intact structure of any English cathedral that is still in use today.

Boasting unusual treasures of art and design amongst which are thought to have inspired Lewis Carroll to write ‘The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland’, visiting Ripon Cathedral will not only take your breath away but take you on a journey of enlightenment & discovery.  A warm welcome awaits.
