At Swinton Bivouac we love all things luxurious and rustic, sustainable and thoughtful. The site is located three miles from Masham in the sweeping landscape of the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate in the Yorkshire Dales. The local landmark of Druid’s Temple, an intriguing 18th century folly, is located in the woodland adjacent to Bivouac. This off-grid accommodation consists of six Tree Lodges and seven Meadow Yurts, above the reception area is the cosy Loft.

Try glamping the luxurious way with the Tree Lodges at Swinton Bivouac. Each tree lodge has its own private hot tub with stunning views over the rolling Yorkshire hills and a hammock set amongst the trees. Guests of the Tree Lodges have access to the woodland sauna. Sleeping up to 7 people, kids love the triple bunk beds, with a stargazing window on the upper mezzanine with king size bed, 3 single beds on the middle bunk and a hideaway on the lower bunk with double bed. The rest of the Tree Lodge is taken up with an open plan, well equipped kitchen area and a comfortable and homely lounge area where guests can enjoy the warmth from the fire, the twinkle of the fairy lights and candlelight, or relax together over a delicious meal prepared on the gas hob. A separate room houses the bathroom which comprises of a flushing toilet, shower and sink. There is no electricity, so we recommend you bring a torch!

Meadow Yurts, which sleep up to 4 people, are perfect for those who want to try camping, but still want some home comforts. Watch the sunset on the wooden veranda with stunning views over the valley, equipped with sheltered outdoor seating with fire pit and an area for boules and swing ball. The wood burner, which keeps the yurts nice and toasty, and sink take up one portion of the yurt, while a comfortable living area fills the remaining space providing a calm environment to unwind after an active day out. All yurts have an adjoining W.C. There is no electricity, so we recommend you bring a torch!

The Meadow field is home to a communal hot tub, which can be hired privately for your party, a Weber BBQ Kitchen, a communal kitchen area fully equipped for your family BBQ, and use of a camping kitchen with gas hobs. Located next to the yurt field, The Bistro Café provides uncomplicated dishes with local produce, warm and alcoholic beverages and internet access. You are welcome to use the shower and toilet facilities near the reception barn, which has underfloor heating and hot water created through the woodchip boiler.

Situated above the Swinton Bivouac shop & reception, The Loft comprises of two double / twin beds and one sofa bed. Sleeping up to 6 people, The Loft is a wonderful self-contained space, great for those who feel that pull of the great outdoors and glamping, but just can’t do without the luxuries of a reading light or catching the latest episode in the series.

There’s plenty to keep you busy at Swinton Bivouac, whether you’re staying for the night or visiting for an afternoon. From relaxing and admiring the panoramic views, to exploring the many woodland trails and country lanes by bike (with bike hire available!) to collecting fresh eggs for breakfast for the Bivouac Hens. The aviary at Swinton Bivouac is home to owls and hawks with experiences for the whole family. Swinton Country Club and Spa is also just down the road, the perfect addition to a relaxing break in the great outdoors.
