Harrogate Spring Flower Show
Your garden is as personal as your fingerprint – no two are the same.
After two years of turmoil, lockdowns and isolation, the 2022 Harrogate Spring Flower Show is set to explore our unique and growing connection with plants, flowers and gardening.
The show is staged at the Great Yorkshire Showground and kicks off the UK’s national gardening calendar on 21 – 24 April. The central theme, Grow Your Home, will celebrate all things horticultural from the resurgence of the humble houseplant and growing your own food, to the physical and psychological benefits of gardening so many of us have discovered, or perhaps rediscovered, during the Covid pandemic.
Featuring stunning show gardens and spectacular plant nursery displays, the flower show offers plenty of take-home inspiration. There will be plants for every place in your garden, with a wide range of top-class UK nurseries offering an unrivalled choice of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees.
A packed programme of live entertainment includes talks and demos across four stages. TV cook and chef consultant Stephanie Moon will be creating a mouth-watering menu of dishes from veg patch produce in the Gardener’s Kitchen, with grow-your-own guru Martin Walker on hand to offer top tips and advice on making sure you have plenty growing on the plot to fill up your cooking pot.
The GROW! team of BBC Radio York’s Martin Fish, North Yorkshire plantswoman Sarah Hopps and show judge Helen Bainbridge will be on hand with expert advice on getting the most from your garden, while celebrity floral designer Jonathan Moseley inspires his CREATE! audiences with fun demos on bringing the garden into your home with cut-flower arrangements.
New for 2022 is a Grow Your Home theatre offering wide-ranging talks, interviews and speakers exploring the impact and benefits for The Human Gardener. The Leeds Allotment Federation is also creating a special feature called Back to Back Gardening, illustrating the surge in the popularity and quality of allotment cultivation.
Spring is the perfect time to plan for the new growing season and look forward to a long, glorious summer outdoors. So, if you want to pep up the patio or get growing in a new greenhouse this year, there will be thousands of essential items to choose from.
If, like many, you have missed the wonderful array of unusual crafts and gifts to be found away from the high street, then a stroll around the Crafts & Gifts section could be just the ticket.
For the foodies among us, there will be a mouth-watering choice of regional dishes and specialist delicacies to take home. Whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer to sample the savoury, there should be something to tempt your tastebuds.
