Harrogate Film Society is pleased to announce Season 1 of our Music Legends Series. This event will take place at Bilton Club (previously known as Bilton Working Men's Club). This community venue has a fantastic function room with it's own bar, a self-contained PA system and disabled access.
Films will be projected onto a screen based on the stage and we are pleased to bring you 4 brilliant films as a new initiative for the next four months.

Starting with;

Hitsville, The Making of Motown | April 19 | 7pm | Director : Ben Turner & Gabe Turner | USA /UK | 2021 | 112 Minutes | IMDb 7.9 | Documentary | Venue - Bilton Club on Skipton Road

Documentary film that focuses on the period beginning with the birth of Motown in Detroit in 1958 until it's relocation to Los Angeles in the early 1970's. Ignoring the lawsuits, addiction and fraught relationships, the film focuses predominantly on the the 1960's and firmly on the artists, the music and the context of America's racial tensions and civil rights movements.

Trivia - Diana Ross and Gladys Knight are notable omissions of living Motown artists who only appear in archival footage and not new interviews for this documentary.

Each movie will be introduced by Harrogate author and broadcaster, Derek Shelmerdine. He will set the scene for the film and provide insight into the background. Derek is the author of Rock'n'Roll Unravelled, which tells the story of rock'n'roll from its roots to late 70's punk.

Places are limited to 80 for this initial event so we can assess capacity and ensure a great viewing experience for everyone. Book your tickets here on our website, at any of our events or on the door (if you dare risk not booking). This room is fully accessible.

Tickets will be available to HFS members, their guests and the general public on a first come, first served basis. Prices from £3 - £6 per person.
(FYI, it is possible to become a member of Bilton Club.

Please note, this is completely unrelated to HFS membership. Please check out their website for more details. There are several benefits to being a member, including discounted drinks and Club event tickets which are up to 50% cheaper, along with several trips and social events each year.)
