We are pleased to welcome Edward Mayer to talk to us on Monday 29th March at the usual time of 7.30pm. The subject of the talk will be: "Supporting and Enhancing Urban Biodiversity". Edward's previous career gave him a strong understanding of the built environment, property management and the application of building law. He was for many years Gallery Manager of the Tate Gallery, responsible for maintenance and building work at the Tate in London and its other sites in St Ives and Liverpool. As well as having a life-long love of and respect for wildlife and the environment Edward set up 'London's Swifts' in 2002 as an Internet based resource providing authoritative information on the causes of, and ways of preventing, the decline of the UK's population of the Common Swift. His organisation, now called 'Swift Conservation" works in liaison with the RSPB, the British Trust for Ornithology, local government as well as property developers and building contractors. It aims to encourage preservation of existing nest sites and to set up nest box projects as examples of best practice. We have it on good authority that Edward is a lively and engaging speaker so it should be a very interesting evening. If you would like to join the meeting please email me at info@knaresborough-civic-society.org.uk and I will be delighted to send you the link to join the meeting. We normally ask members to pay £3 and non members £5 for our face to face meetings. We are not making any charge for this talk but will be happy to receive any donations if people think the talk was worthwhile. Details of how to donate will be given when I send the link to the meeting. Read more
