The Races : All Roads lead to Harrogate

From 21 to 29 September 2019 the very best cyclists in the world will be racing to just one place, the very heart of Yorkshire, Harrogate

The UCI Road World Championships will take place in the county of Yorkshire and, just like in 2014 when the Tour de France came to town, the finish line will be in the centre of Harrogate, alongside the Stray.

Harrogate and the surrounding towns will make the perfect base from which to see the best of the racing

You will find the perfect spot whether you plan to be out on the road, on one of the epic sharp climbs for which the Yorkshire roads are so well known, or in the heart of Harrogate for the festival atmosphere that will line the streets with each lap of the finishing circuit.

From all corners of Yorkshire

The 11 races will begin across Yorkshire in Northallerton, Ripon, Richmond, Beverley, Doncaster, Bradford and Leeds – all heading to the beautiful spa town of Harrogate where they will race around a challenging and technical 14 km finishing circuit, passing by some of Harrogate’s most iconic sites as they go.

The racing will culminate in the men and women’s road races on the big final weekend of 28 & 29 September.

The women’s race will begin in Bradford, the men’s in Leeds from where they will both head north into the Yorkshire Dales for classic Yorkshire race routes.

The men will find themselves revisiting the Tour de France route of the 2014 Grand Depart, before the peloton bears down on Harrogate for an gruelling seven laps of the finishing loop.

For the women the route will be a Tour de Yorkshire best of, finishing on the route from the 2017 women’s race which took on one of Nidderdale’s Killer Climbs, the Côte de Lofthouse before passing by Fountains Abbey and taking a weaving route towards Harrogate along the roads that saw Lizzie Deignan deliver a decisive victory in 2017.

To one spectacular Spa Town

Harrogate will be the centre of all the action.  The town will host not only the finish line but also an epic 14km finishing loop that will challenge teams and individuals alike.  Tight turns, climbs, and long open straights mean riders will need the full complement of skills and fitness to make the most of this typically Yorkshire course.

The first three races will all start in Harrogate and be based entirely around this circuit.

With one or more races every day Harrogate District will truly be the place to be when Harrogate Welcomes the World for the Yorkshire 2019 Championships.
