What's On Around Harrogate

Harrogate is fantastic all year round with plenty to see and do – but you might want to time your visit to catch one of our very special events when you see what’s on in Harrogate.

The Harrogate Spring Flower Show along with its sister show in autumn attracts some 100,000 green fingered plant enthusiasts each year and is the go-to event for anyone seeking inspiration for their garden.

The out of this world experience of hosting the finish of the first day of the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014 put Harrogate firmly on the UK cycling map and the legacy endures in the form of a number of events for amateurs and professionals alike.

Harrogate International Festivals now takes its place alongside the leading cultural events in the UK, with a varied program including the Crime Writing Festival, the Children’s festival, and the History Festival.

As well as attracting leading lights in their fields, the Festivals act as a showcase for up and coming talent. 

As you’d expect on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales rural life is never far away, but every July it comes to town with the Great Yorkshire Show, the largest agricultural show in Britain.

Around 130,000 visitors flock to Harrogate to see competitive classes of 5000 cattle, sheep and pigs – show jumping and equine competitions – Food Hall – Cookery Theatre - Fashion shows  - demonstrations and much much more.

There’s nearly always a show on in Harrogate, with the wealth of music, comedy and drama provided by the Harrogate Theatre, touring companies, the nation’s hottest comics and world renowned orchestras can all be found in the constantly updating line up. 

As the new home of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival you also can count on things going a little topsy turvy in August.

Live music has many homes in Harrogate from cover bands to stars of the underground music scene there’s always a distinctive sound to be found here.

Harrogate enjoys a wealth of world class venues in its Conference Centre, Pavilions, the Great Yorkshire Showground and the grade II Listed Royal Hall which host numerous events and exhibitions including BBC Good Food, Country Living, Cake & Bake and the Knitting Stitching show just to name a few.

Many of our local attractions also stage their own programmes of events appealing to all the family – take a look at National Trust Brimham Rocks, Ripley Castle and RHS Garden Harlow Carr.
