What's On in Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale
There’s always something going on in Pateley Bridge; with any active rural community comes a calendar of activity and celebration and Nidderdale is no different.
The Nidderdale AONB office organises a varied calendar of events themed around the exploration, preservation, enjoyment and appreciation of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Enjoy a guided walk that mixes the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales with fascinating stories behind how man has worked and shaped the landscape. Hear experts share their knowledge of conservation or rare species and enjoy the chance to get hands on and involved in the work that goes into preserving the AONB.
The recent growth in cinema facilities in the rural communities has meant the village halls in Pateley Bridge and Darley regularly show films to sell out audiences. Experience a local cinema, run by and for the community, including a bar and considerably more character & atmosphere than your local multiscreen.
The Pateley Playhouse has a deservedly glowing reputation for its immersive productions of both classic and original works in their 72 seat theatre. With typically three productions a year and guest performances, keep an eye out for unique theatre experiences in this historic setting.
Summer sees the Dale buzzing with events, from those steeped in tradition and history such as the Nidderdale Show, the last show in the agricultural calendar and a final hurrah for the farming community, to new but already popular events like the 1940s Weekend and the Nidderdale Art Trail which get everyone involved.
In September the Open Heritage days provide the rare chance to explore usually inaccessible remains of yesteryear, with guided tours revealing fascinating facts of some of Nidderdale’s most interesting buildings.
With regular book and craft fairs, flower festivals, cricket matches at the showground, live concerts in the band stand and unique local events such as the Middlesmoor Bell Festival which dates back to 1868 when six bells where given to Middlesmoor Church in Upper Nidderdale, you’ll find there’s always something going on in Pateley Bridge & Nidderdale.
