Christmas Events

Every day throughout November and December you will find great Christmas events taking place to really get you in the festive spirit.

From the traditional to the contemporary, classical to modern, there is so much going on.

The festivities start with the switch on of the Christmas lights in towns across the district during November.

However, for many The Messiah signals the true start of Christmas, and Handel’s masterpiece can be enjoyed in the atmospheric setting of The Royal Hall in Harrogate, as well as the other towns across the area.

With Christmas tree festivals, late night shopping and candlelit carol cervices in spectacular surroundings both ancient and modern to enjoy, the excitement and anticipation continues to grow.

Traditional family fun can be had at the pantomime with Harrogate Theatre’s production of Beauty and the Beast jam packed with jokes and of course there will be all the usual audience participation – ‘oh yes there will!’.

Alternatively you can enjoy something completely different with an entertaining and informative look at what life was like at Christmas for the less fortunate in the Victorian Workhouse at Ripon.

There are a number of ‘hands on’ arts and crafts workshops where you can make your own garlands, decorations, and floral displays - and if you want to shake the cobwebs away and enjoy the crisp December air there are pilgrimages, enchanted forests and winter trails to explore, Tug of War across the River Nidd, or the opportunity to show off your ice skating skills at Stockeld Park.

The Christmas events around Harrogate offer the perfect way to get in the festive spirit and make the preparations for Christmas enjoyable for all the family.

The festivities draw to a close with traditional gatherings in market squares across the region to see in another year, and the Knaresborough Duck Race on New Year’s Day.
