Creative Masham – Arts Festival

19th October 2013

Categories: News

The Creative Masham Arts Festival is nearly here! This magical festival runs from 25th Oct – 2nd Nov and is located, not surprisingly, in Masham - the beautiful market town in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire.

This eccentric event is sure to ignite your imagination with its unusual and exciting arts, crafts, events, music, workshops and more. Come along and be inspired to create a work of art or appreciate and maybe buy someone else’s creation. This year the event has been centred on three significant Masham themes; beer, wool and glass. Masham hosts two glass studios, Uredale Glass and the Nolon Stacey Gallery.

If you’re interested in cultivating a skill in glass staining, felt-making, blacksmithing, drawing and painting you can pop into ArtisOn for full or half day courses. Or, if you’re more of a vocalist, you can learn to sing gospel with Sharon Duran.

Back by popular demand is the evening of atmospheric storytelling for adults by the brilliant and spellbinding Shonaleigh. However, if some fabulously original Christmas presents are what you’re after, Crafted by Hand will be celebrating all things handmade at their buzzing event, which will be held from 10am to 4:30pm in Masham Town Hall on 27th October.

The enchanting festival will also include award-winning folk musicians, tours of secret and mysterious places, and if that’s not enough to spark your interest, how about time travelling magicians! If you visit the Gallery you can view artwork and crafts from local artists Josie Beszant, Ian Scott Massie, Hester Cox and Charlotte Morrison. There will also be over 200 specially selected paintings displayed in St. Mary’s Church.

The headline acts include Morgan and West, who appeared on the Penn & Teller TV show, and folk musicians Jim Moray, Greg Russell and Ciaran Alga, who recently prevailed at the Radio 2 Folk Awards. Be sure to check out the cobbled area of the Market Square to visit Masham’s mechanical friendly monster, the Eel. This year the Eel has magically transformed into a caterpillar as part of the “Field of Dreams” located on the square. This area will also hold an art exhibition in a caravan and a bicycle-powered cinema contained in a miniature caravan.

You won’t want to miss the final night’s party with the headline band Swingmathing. Swingmathing has a seven piece line up and specialises in the popular jazz style of the 1940’s and 1950’s so it’s set to have a fantastically fun atmosphere.

Creative Masham’s strapline is "You never know what you might see, hear or feel" because of the eclectic mix of events, arts, crafts and music it embraces. So, if you want to enjoy an extensive mix of arts, crafts and music, come to the mystical and cultural Creative Masham!
