Yorkshire Named Third Best Region in the World

8th November 2013

Categories: News

With the help of Harrogate of course!

Since the market town was named the happiest place in Britain as well as the best town to get a good night’s sleep in, with its low noise and light levels, it’s no wonder that we’ve played a major part in the Lonely Planet’s choice of top ten regions to visit around the world.

As the Lonely Planet is such an influential information source for travellers around the world, the region, which sits ahead of both Texas and Mallorca on the list, is sure to benefit from many new visitors eager to see what we have to offer. And with sights like Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough, England’s oldest visitor attraction, and the Ripon Horn Blower, who takes to the streets every night to continue the longest ongoing unbroken daily ceremony in the world – 1,127 years and counting – they’re sure to leave wanting more.

Yorkshire will also be playing host to the Grande Départ of the 2014 Tour de France, once again putting the region under a global spotlight. The route, which will pass through Harrogate, Knaresborough, Nidderdale and Ripon in July next year, is sure to be a scenic one, riddled with quirky market towns nestled amongst the rolling hills and green countryside for all the world to see.
