Our Easter Top Ten

1st April 2014

Categories: News

You'll be spoilt for choice with so many school holiday activities in the Harrogate District this Easter. Here’s our hand-picked top ten of the best (well, twelve actually!) to give you a taster…

1 Brighten up your Easter with a range of colourful activities at RHS Harlow Carr. Take part in the Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt, meet the Easter Bunny and sow yellow flowers to support the Grand Depart 'Turning Yorkshire Yellow Campaign' ahead of the big race this summer.

2 Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal is hosting a bonanza of Easter activities – hunt high and low to find the golden egg, win chocolate prizes on a Cadbury Easter Egg Trail, create wonderful window art, tag along on a family nature walk, book to join a den building or geocaching activity, or get involved in Easter ‘eggsploits’ and put your best foot forward in the bank holiday egg and spoon race.

3 Stockeld Park opens with Stockeld's new Easter Adventure this year, including a unique egg hunt with giant hand painted eggs and bunnies hidden in their enchanted forest. You can also help Bo Peep find her sheep on a quest into the maze or take part in Easter-themed crafts and ‘eggstra’ special events with the Magic Hatter, Fairy Enchantica and Easter Bunny on the bank holiday weekend.

4 Springtime Live is a brand new event hosted by the organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show and held on the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. Just the job for families with young children, there’ll be a whole host of hands on activities and workshops based on a Spring, new life and rural theme.

5 Young visitors to Newby Hall this Easter will be following clever clues through the woodland walk on a giant Easter egg trail, organised by the Easter Bunny. The clues will lead to the Easter Bunny’s house and a prize egg for everyone.

6  Keep an eye out for fantastically shaped rocks at Brimham Rocks this Easter – clamber, scramble and crawl through crevices, outcrops and tunnels on a Cadbury Easter Egg Trail or create wild art and tick off one of your ’50 things to do before you’re 11 & 3/4’.

7 If you’ve had your fill of chocolate eggs step back in time to the English Civil War and ‘Meet the Governor’ at Skipton Castle. How long can Sir John ‘stout it out’ for the King amidst siege and skirmishes?

8 At How Stean Gorge you can go ‘through the looking glass’ to explore ravines, caves and aerial footbridges to collect clues on an Alice in Wonderland trail.

9 Head to Bivouac's Easter Mini Day Out, Easter crafts and an egg hunt where the kids can make as much noise as they like in the wide-open countryside! Don’t forget to stop by Masham’s favourite sweet shop Baa Humbug to discover a real cavern of treats.

…And because it was far too difficult to choose just ten…

10 Knaresborough Castle will play host to the annual Knaresborough Easter Fayre with go-karts, donkey rides, garden games, children’s activities and market stalls…and if you call into the Oldest Chemist’s Shop in England on Knaresborough market place you’ll find an eye-watering selection of chocolates too.

11 Take the whole family to find willow nests and brightly coloured eggs, and see if you can discover the missing gold bunnies on the Great Studfold Easter Egg Hunt.
