Knaresborough scoops Best Dressed Town Award for the Tour de France

1st July 2014

Categories: Business News

With our offices in Knaresborough we have seen the town’s Tour de France decorations as they have grown from the occasional yellow bike here and there to the full carnival of colour, celebration and bicycles that festoons the town today.

This enthusiasm has spread across the district but Knaresborough has always been at the forefront of finding new ways to embrace the Tour de France.  So it was with great satisfaction we learned yesterday that Knaresborough has won Welcome to Yorkshire’s best dressed town award for the Grand Depart 2014.

Knaresborough’s decorations have taken dedication and commitment from the local community.  The range has been eclectic including bunting, flags, ‘laundry lines’ of individually designed t-shirts, window displays, permanent artworks in the form of new Knaresborough Windows and of course a myriad of dressed bicycles.

It has been really exciting to see how contagious this celebration has been across the community, with decorated bikes, brightly repainted buildings and more knitted bunting that you could hang across five towns and a city.  The hard work from everyone will pay off this weekend when the nearly 200 riders of the Tour de France will take to the road and battle it out to be the first to Harrogate (COME ON CAV!!!) and the world’s TV viewers will see Knaresborough and our other towns in all their glory.

We look forward to welcoming you to watch the Tour de France with us, we have links and advice to help you travel and a guide to some of the key spectator points and camping locations across Ripon, Harrogate and Nidderdale.  All that’s left to do now is have the most amazing time possible so come and join us for Le Grand Depart – Yorkshire style!

The Tour de France decorations around Knaresborough will stay up until September so if you are elsewhere in the district on the day of the race you will have plenty of time to make a trip to Knaresborough and enjoy the vibrant tribute while you explore the historic market town.
