Chinese and French travel buyers sample Harrogate and District delights

2nd March 2015

Categories: News

Harrogate has hosted a group of over 40 travel buyers from China, France and Belgium designed to show overseas visitors what they can expect from a visit to our wonderful area.

The trip was organized by Visit Britain and supported by Visit Harrogate and the visitors enjoyed a feast of delights from dining at B.E.D restaurant, relaxing at the historic Turkish Baths, exploring RHS Garden Harlow Carr and sampling the iconic Betty's fat rascals in the company of  Andrew Jones MP.  Guided tours of Fountains and Bolton Abbey were on the menu and the Cedar Court Hotel hosted the guests overnight.

The tour included representatives from prestigious travel buying organisations such as TravelWeekly China, Shanghai Airlines, Brittany Ferries and La Quotidienne.   China is a huge growth area for tourism into the UK, currently accounting for some £500 million income per year and Visit Britain have ambitious plans to double this figure by 2020.

This was a fantastic chance to showcase all that we have to offer the overseas visitor and we are confident that the delegates returned home having witnessed the area's gems and set to sing our praises in their respective countries.

Stacey Ling, Marketing Executive for China, Visit Britain said "It was a great visit to Harrogate and all trade guests were very impressed by the hospitality received in the UK's happiest town."
