Visit Harrogate Agrees, it #hastobeHarrogate

15th July 2016

Categories: News

In a showcase of great art, culture and design of the North, reminiscent of the Great Exhibition of 1851, the Great Exhibition of the North in 2018 will put the local artists and performers, cultural organisations and creative businesses on a pedestal for the UK and the World to see.

Visit Harrogate is delighted to support the official Harrogate bid to host the Great Exhibition of the North and agrees that Harrogate is uniquely positioned and equipped to provide the best possible location for the Exhibition.

At the centre of our nation, Harrogate is equidistant from the two capitals of London and Edinburgh, and is the beating heart of Yorkshire with similar journey times to both Sheffield and Newcastle.

Harrogate’s extensive exhibition facilities as well as its beautifully maintained green spaces mean it can provide a world class stage for a world class event.

Harrogate has a rich cultural seam of events with the Crime Writers Festival and the Harrogate History Festival just two of the popular events from Harrogate International Festivals’ calendar, the acclaimed Mercer Gallery and the beauty of the Royal Hall.

We’ve long known the waters hold something special, but we are also home to Yorkshire Tea and Taylors coffee as well as Harrogate Spring Water, local brews include such names as Daleside, Black Sheep and Theakstons.

With great restaurants, stunning hotels and outstanding countryside all around us, Harrogate really is the perfect host for the Great Exhibition of the North.

Mike Newby, Director of Visit Harrogate said the bid was a great opportunity for Harrogate:

“To have such a prestigious event in Harrogate would be a fantastic opportunity to show ourselves as an important centre in the North.  Harrogate would be a fantastic place to host it.  We’re in a great location with some fantastic places to hold events.”

He went on to add

The Grand Depart in 2014 was widely regarded as the grandest Grand Depart ever ; we know how to host national and international events.”
