Mountain Biking in Harrogate & District

This part of the Yorkshire Dales has some amazing mountain biking on its doorstep.

You will find epic climbs and challenging descents easily accessible within a short drive or road ride.

From cross country leg busters to full on Downhill, from gentle tours of the rolling hills on quiet country tracks, to the most technical man made trail centre in the UK, don't even consider leaving the mountain bike at home when you visit Harrogate & District

Your trip won't be ruined by a mechanical, we have some of the best cycle shops in Yorkshire, with all the knowledge and enthusiasm you get at your local bike shop as well finding anything you need you can get route advice and local info for the best rides around.

The valley of Nidderdale at the heart of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offers a range of great rides and dramatic views, and makes a great base for a long weekend of riding.

Whatever riding you are into you will find great trails and abundance of local bakeries and delis to stock up at before you set out into the hills and wonderful pubs at which to refuel and reflect on your ride over a pint when you return.

With cycle freindly accommodation all across the district you'll be perfectly located for great rides on your holiday.

Get out into the hills through the bridleway network of Nidd Vale around Knaresborough where trails teem with wildlife; discover charming villages and patches of woodland you would never otherwise know were there.

Test your climbing stamina with the Great Greenhow ride, or take in the breath-taking views over Scar and Angram Reservoirs with the established classic, the Tour of Nidderdale.

Each of these routes will take you far out from the towns and deep into the moors, offering stunning views and rewarding ascents, and most importantly a pub near the end!

For a shorter but still exhilarating mountain biking rush, the Brimham Blast packs some of the best sections of trail in Lower Nidderdale into one enjoyable 9 mile route.

For the technically minded, the Stainburn Forest Mountain Bike Trails in the Washburn Valley are renowned for their severity and challenge.

Though small, these hand built trails reward repeated laps to master the various options and alternative lines available.

With two red graded trails and a double black, which is thought to be the most technical in the country, this compact site packs in as much action as any larger trail centre and thanks to its dedicated team of trailbuilders, it is constantly evolving.

For more relaxed trail centre experience, why not try Yorkshire Water’s trails at Fewston Reservoir where features are mixed with family cycling.
