National Trust Long Dales Route

Address

Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre Studley Park Ripon N Yorkshire HG4 3DY

This is a challenging route for committed, fit bike riders that takes in some of Yorkshire's most amazing scenery. Starting from the National Trust Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal World Heritage Site (toilets, refreshments) the route heads through the historic deer park and then country lanes through small villages including Masham, famous for its two breweries. It then makes its way towards Wensleydale.

Having climbed out of Bishopdale on the reverse of the 2014 Tour de France route you enter into beautiful Upper Wharfedale. A tough climb up from Arncliffe leads you onto Malham Moor before you drop down past Malham Tarn to the village of Malham (toilets, refreshments).

From Airton, a section of the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way leads you back into Wharfedale before you climb up to Greenhow followed by a swift descent into Pateley Bridge (toilets, refreshments). The last leg takes you on the Way of the Roses route past the National Trust site of Brimham Rocks (amazing rock formations, toilets and refreshments) before returning on flatter roads to your start point at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal where you may wish to indulge yourself in a well-earned treat in the restaurant.
