Pateley Bridge Heritage Trails
Explore the Nidderdale town of Pateley Bridge through its history, its buildings and its surrounding landscape
The town of Pateley Bridge has seen tremendous change over the centuries. Railways, industries and other influences have come and gone, each leaving their mark on the town.
The Pateley Bridge Heritage Trails offer a guided introduction both to the town of Pateley Bridge and also to the history of the town and the surrounding landscape.
The Inner Heritage Trail explores the streets of Pateley Bridge taking in the buildings that played a significant part in its development and story. The trail takes about an hour with time to read and observe, and covers about a mile with some moderate climbing.
The outer Heritage trail is a 2.5 mile walk that explores the hillside above Pateley Bridge with a loop that includes the old church of St Mary’s and the quarry above the town that provide good quality stone to Yorkshire and beyond. The outer trail takes about 90 minutes dependent on pace and pauses, and does include some prolonged gradient.
