Set in the beautiful countryside between Masham and Ripon, Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park is home to over 90 striking contemporary sculptures, situated within 45 acres of stunning woodland and gardens. The microclimate of the valley makes it fertile ground for the rare blue poppy, alongside the North’s largest collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias.
UPDATE: Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park is open. Entry is by date specific pre-booked ticket or season ticket, please the website for full details. The play area and tearooms remain closed and visitors are encouraged to bring their own refreshments.
The park features a Pagoda, Summerhouse, Norse Hut, contemplation circle and Himalayan Shelter enhanced by three lakes and decorative bridges.
2020 sees the creation of 4 unique sculptures by Karin Van der Molen inspired by the landscape; to add to the park’s internationally recognised art collection.
Recent years have seen the introduction of a popular log cabin tearoom, children’s playground, and an events programme. For 2020 this includes children’s story telling and walk, botanical illustration workshops and a free sculpture project. Visitors can join ceramic artist Anna Whitehouse to create a clay Himalayan poppy, as part of a permanent installation of 600 to be produced over the season.
Winners of the Yorkshire in Bloom Tourist Attraction Award in 2018 and 2019 and Best Business Award 2019, the gardens have now been shortlisted in the Garden of the Year category for the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2020.
The gardens featured on BBC Countryfile’s autumn special last year and have attracted a celebrity Patron, Joanna Lumley, who described it as “a slice of heaven”.
Due to visitor demand, 2020 will see the gardens extending its opening season from the 10th of April until the 1st of November from 10am to 4pm (open Tuesdays to Sundays and Bank Holidays).
Dogs on a lead are welcome in the park, gardens and tearooms.
